Daily report from
Latakia on Sunday 22/01/2012
People demonstrated
shortly in MarTaqla, and broke peacefully after being attacked by security and
thugs. Another demo took place in Slaybeh today.
Before that many
protested in Al-Raml and were chased by security, but no one was caught.
A night protest took
place in villages on Babanna and Jengheel near Haffeh, while another demo
lifted the independence flag in the village square in Dourine just like what
happened yesterday.
Yesterday in Slaybeh,
the protest which took part there was attacked by security with no one
arrested, which led security to arrest a peddler so that he would help them
identify the protesters. This is a
phenomenon which keeps repeating.
Yesterday as well a
protest took place in Marj Khokha village despite the heavy rains.
An explosion was heard
at night in Qnainas near the school complex, while another explosion took place
in Jableh city on Jableh Bridge.
Ahmad Zakaria from
Mashrou’ Al-Slaybeh was released after more than six months in Assad prisons. Last
Sunday 19 year-old from Harasta in Reef Dimashque, 2nd year medicine
student Abu-Bakr Abdul-Rahman Al-Kaka was arrested in Ziraa Street, last thing
known about him was that he was in Military Security. (He was arrested with a
friend who got released).
Slaybeh saw heavy
security near Olabi Café as three security cars existed there along with many
members, and so was the case in Ugharit Square as two fire trucks, a Jeep, and
many civilian cars such as a white Matiz and a Suzuki where there with thugs
inside.
A patrol was
positioned near the park opposite Shukri Hakim School in Mashrou’ Al-Slaybeh,
and three security cars existed in Ashrafiyeh. In addition to three security
cars [2 pick-ups and a Jeep] whiched moved from Qwatli and Owieneh with 6 thug
members in each.
