Daily report from
Latakia on Wednesday 11/01/2012
A morning demo was
being organized in Tabiyat today, which led to heavy security presence in the
area. Another demo took place in Owieneh.
Students of Saif
Al-Dawla cheered for God inside their school despite the security presence
outside. Whereas girls of Maher Darweesh demonstrated at 9:30 in the morning,
only to be attacked by two security cars with 10 members in each with no
arrests recorded as the demo dispersed.
On the other hand the
regime, and as usual after each Assad speech, prepared for marches assembling
students and employees for the purpose. Employees were asked to return to their
offices after the march was over to ensure their participation.
Moujammah Al-Banat in
Al-Cornich Al-Janoobi didn’t look like a school complex today, but rather like
a military base, as security and thugs were distributed heavily all over the
place; one guarding each classroom asking girls as they go out after their exams
if they’d written their full names, if the answer was yes he would check,
otherwise they’d have to write in full again.
Mannah Haytham Wakeel,
22 years of age, passed away today; he’s from Owieneh and was injured in the
explosion done by security which took place two days back when the Arab observers
were in town. His body is still held in Army Hospital while his father is still
detained by the security.
A raid on Adnan
Al-Maliki Shool ended up with arresting more than 10 students today, as
security used civilian cars and wore civilian outfits. Two were beaten up
before being arrested, while other were forced into a sliver van with plate no.
263038-Damascus, as three others were ambushed by a white Nissan Sunny 83 accompanying
the van mentioned earlier.
Three kids were also
arrested in Al-Raml Al-Janoobi; two from Al-Mahmood family. This brings the
total of kids arrested in the city today to 16.
An explosion was heard
in Al-Raml, while gunshots were heard yesterday in Mashrou’ Al-Slaybeh, and so
was the case in Al-Raml as thugs roamed in their cars singing for Assad. At
night another explosion hit the city and we’re yet to identify the exact place.
We’ve learned of few
people praying in mosques on Friday only to go out after prayers end to lead
security to those initiating protests. This is been happening for four weeks in
a row.
Many armed patrols
were roaming streets on Mashrou’ Al-Qalaa in civilian cars today, and near a
military base barriers were placed stopped all cars passing by. Heavy searching
was conducted today on Skantoori barrier, whereas four thugs’ cars were seen
roaming the same area. Heavy security was also noticed in Ugharit Square.
In Tishreen University
security was intensified on all gates and everyone was searched once at the
gate and a second time when entering his/her collage.
Below are videos of the day.
