Daily
report from Latakia on Monday 09/04/2012
The day saw
many Syrian refugees leaving the Kellis refugee camp inside the Turkish borders
to safer places after being fired at by Assad forces; many were wounded with
reports of casualties.
Since early hours
of the morning the city was under much tension, terror, arrests, and heavy
security in fears of protests after the death of soldier Ahmad Sawah yesterday.
Parents were forced to bury their son directly in Rawdha cemetery. Torture
marks were clear on the deceased body; blue marks, scars on the face, a bullet
in the back of the head, another in the heart, and a distorted belly, and
despite all that security kept claiming his commit suicide. Ahmad served in
Damascus and was later transferred to Homs and then Hama, and always expressed
to friends and family his wish to defect which was probably the reason he was
killed.
Another soldier
Layth Mustafa from Bdama village died today while attempting to defect in
Reef-Dimashque.
A protest
took place today inside Shukri Hakim School in Ashrafiyeh, and another took
place later near Fawal corner saluting deceased soldier Ahmad Sawah.
Security forces
surrounded schools like Afaf, Suleiman Hambo, and Karama to prevent ant
protests and dispersed students as they were leaving their schools.
Security arrested
an old man in Ugarit Square today after screaming “Allahu Akbar” and was later
held in Ugarit base. For a month Zeid Jamal Haj Hussein has been arrested from
his workplace at SyriaTel and no one knows his whereabouts.
Helicopter
flight was seen in the skies of Al-Raml area at dusk.
New surveillance
cameras were installed in the Mechanical and Electrical faculties in the 3rd
and 4th floors adding to tens of cameras installed in the
Engineering faculty since last February. Security in tightening up on
university students in many faculties and in the dorm as revolution activities
are stirring up.
Regime loyalists
continue their campaigns running for parliament; banners fill the streets of
the city holding the same promises that the Syrian nation grew tired of hearing
for ages. And just like the elections of 4 months ago and constitution
referendum failed to attract the majority of Syrians despite the regime’s
claims. Syrians can trust only in the revolution!
Dounia TV
camera was seen at noon near 8th of March Maqsam escorted by 4 Assad
gangs buses who cheered for Bashar and his reforms; it lasted for half an hour
before everything was back to normal.
Below are
videos of the day.
