Daily report from Latakia on Monday 06 August 2012
Ramadan’s full moon completes and arbitrary shelling continues on Kurds Mountains. Today shelling targeted Rabiah and surrounding villages and many locals migrated from Zanzaf, Beit-Ewan, al-Qastal, and al-Saraya villages, and fires broke alongside the Turkish borders, in addition to blocking the Latakia - Turkey international road while more than 9 rocket fel on Brodan Dam area at night.
The Revolution General Committee confirmed that shelling using rocket launchers targeted eastern villages. Heavy shelling also targeted al-Sukariyeh and al-Khadra villages in Turkman Mountains without claiming casualties, while FSA helped locals moving into safer areas.
A rocket fell on a house in Terdine as al-S’haqeer barrier was retreating towards Aleepo being covered by an army plane over Jisr al-Shughur; a wife from al-Zainbo and her daughter were injured and moved to Turkey for treatment as the mother’s condition appeared to be critical.
Tonight there was shelling from tanks and launchers near Swelha village in Turkman Mountains aimed at Salma. Rabiah was also shelled at Iftar time and three civilians were slightly injured in al-Sukariyeh village. More than 20 rockets fell later on Dwerkeh and Marj Khokha villages in Kurds Mountains destroying few houses and injuring two citizens.
According to the Revolution Military Council in Latakia heavy clashes took place between the FSA [Ahrar al-Jabal al-Westani brigade] and Assad forces heading to Aleppo on Latakia-Aleppo highway; a tank was destroyed by FSA. Izzidine al-Qassam and al-Izz bin Abdul-Salam battalions of the FSA conducted a special operation targeting Assad forces last night.
Regime was reported to have moved weapons from the port that had arrived earlier. Today, two big trucks were seen reaching Esterbeh village where Assad forces are based carrying tank ammunition and rockets.
Yesterday 4 soldiers defected from a barrier near Zighreen and were secured a safe exit by FSA. Also, Captain Muhammad Mustafa Zraiq of homicide security in Idleb defected; he’s from Saqiet al-Kert village in Latakia.
Last night saw heavy shelling by Assad forces near Zubar on Babanna in Haffeh with 4 rockets falling on the village, and three citizens were reported injured while five houses were severely damaged, school of Ahmad Deeb was also hit. Rocket and tank shelling also continued on most villages in Kurds Mountains like Salma and Dourine.
Ten young men were kidnapped from Zanzaf village by regime’s Shabbiha and were released 5 hours later after negotiations. Three of Latakia’s public figures will be heading to the area to solve this kidnapping issue.
It is confirmed that three Chinese ships entered Port of Tartous at an unknown date, but the port was closed on Sunday 5 August 2012 to prevent any information being leaked about the shipments and their quantities. Later two explosions hit Banias city in Tartous believed to be near a military base in Sahm ak-Bahr area.
Assad gangs raided a building in 7th April area arresting a citizen there.
Night demos took place today in Slaybeh, Skantoori, al-Raml, MarTaqla, and Owieneh, while freedom fliers were distributed in Mashrou’ al-Slaybeh. Later gunfire was heard coming from al-Hirsh barriers by Assad forces, and an explosion was heard in MarTaqla and Antakia Street.
