Daily report from
Latakia on Sunday 01/01/2012
Power was off in most
of neighborhoods for certain periods of time as usual; as in Owieneh, Slaybeh,
Mashrou’ Al-Slaybeh, Qalaa, Mashrou’ Al-Qalaa, Ashrafiyeh, and Maisaloon
Street, as well as Haffeh town and surrounding areas. Whereas Ali Jammal
neighborhood experienced power cuts from 11:00 am till night.
A demo took place in
Marj-Khokha village in Salma, the village was raided and surrounded later by
security.
Nineteen years old
Ahmad Al-Shalh was arrested in his house in Al-Raml after a raided conducted at
6:00 am in the morning.
An explosion shook
Al-Raml area, and was followed by security presence as well as raids and random
arrests.
Usual security
presence overshadowed the city, as it was heavier near Olabi café and Al-Batta
building, while few thugs spread in allies. Drunken thugs were seen roaming in
cars on Al-Hirsh road annoying and threatening citizens. Other members on
Skantoori barrier offended many by comparing their president Bashar to Prophet
Mohammad, which many felt to be very provocative. Five security cars were seen entering Al-Raml
at night during power cuts.
It looks like the
regime is resorting to trickery more and more; using the fact that Arab
Observers are in town regime thugs would dress like them roaming the city trying
to ambush people, one victim was a 14 year old who approached them only to be
beaten up and left in the street. Also, they’re entering mosque and pretending
to be protesters ambushing real ones.
In Jableh, heavy
gunfire was aimed at Hourriah square coming from a security branch, which was
followed by a big explosion.
Below are videos from today and yesterday.
