Daily report from Latakia on Friday [If you believe God will answer] 06/01/2012
A protest broke today, yet again, in Husein mosque and lasted for good ten minutes despite the security presence outside, and as the protesters stepped out security tried arresting a person, in repeat of last week’s events, and so the protesters gathered and forced them to let the man go. Protests slogans didn’t fall well on the ears of the colonel in charge, and so he tried to give protesters a speech. Security patrols actually roamed around the mosque before and after the prayers surrounding it with 13 cars, few bikes and other members, while an informant with his car selling vegetables and filming protesters so that they can be identified and arrested later.
Demos happened also in Zuzu mosque, and later on in Qnainas, while security surrounded Al-Rahman mosque in Tabiyat.
Other demos also took place after Friday prayers in Babanna and Jengheel villages, as well as in Bkas and Msherfeh where a protest took place near Al-Rahman mosque there.
A protest in Slama which took place after noon prayers was shot at by security and thugs.
Security spread heavily in Qnainas anticipating demos; more than 40 members gathered on a barrier near Tajamou Madares Qnainas, and two fully armed station cars were positioned there as well, while few members roamed the area to terrorize people into staying in.
Heavy and fully armed security with cars was spotted near Al-Batta building in Slaybeh, while a bus full of thugs reached Houriah square near Olabe Café and another one in Shaikh Daher square. Security cars were spotted in Skantoori near Abdul-Sattar Joud’s shop anticipating a protest from Aashura mosque.
A person was arrested near Al-Sufi Hospital after praying in Husien mosque due to informant who gave security a word about him. While yesterday the whole of Slaybeh was raided and many were arrested amid cries of horrified women and kids.
An explosion was heard today near a police station in Al-Raml, as well as gunfire coming from Masbah Al-Shaab. Another explosion shook Skantoori later at night, and was followed by gunfire and heavy security while searching all cars on Skantoori barrier.
Here are few names of detainees we were able to get hold of: Ahmad Abdul-Khaleq, 50 years old, a father of 5, from Mashrou’ Al-Slaybeh, arrested a month back. Abdulla Fahham, 25 years old, a father of one daughter, from Slaybeh, arrested in the street 6 months ago.
Yesterday night the whole city protested by creating noise using pans and spoons, which angered security who tried locating noise sources aided by many of their informants. Due to that few areas were raided and many arrested including women and kids, and yet the noise persisted.
That was repeated today in most of the city like in Slaybeh, Tabiyat, Owieneh, and Quatli street, and in Bkas village as well. While an explosion could be heard in Al-Raml.
It was really tense yesterday night in Palestinian Camp in Al-Raml as 3 army members defected and tried to flee, but they were chased and fired at by Assad soldiers who shot in the air as well, it however remain unknown whether they managed to escape or not.
Below are videos documenting this day.
