Daily report from
Latakia on Thursday 15/03/2012
A year of revolution
in which the Syrians claimed dignity and still fighting for their freedom!
An army truck full of
security members was seen on Slonfeh road, as well as 3 security cars roaming
Haffeh during a strike in protest of the two victims of yesterday’s events, and
in solidarity with Babanna and Jengheel villages.
Abdul-Azeem Hamdo and
Ghazwan Shakous were byried today after being killed yesterday in the gunfire
in Babanna and Jengheel; security didn’t allow any funeral.
In preparation for the
pro-regime march today many cars and buses headed to Jableh and Latakia
villages to bring in people, but the response was rather weak. Employees were
forced to participate, and soldiers were ordered to attend the march in their civilian
outfits.
A demo started in
Slaybeh today in support of Babanna and Jengheel, and grew in number as it
continued through Tabiyat and Sidawi, until it was met with gunfire and
explosions set by security as well as arresting people randomly near Olabi. Protesters
later on burnt tires and tanks.
Another big demo took
place in Antakia Street and was also shot at to disperse it, with an explosion
being heard before security started arresting people. Other demos took place in
Sidawi, Himmemi, and Skantoori while security was still heavy.
As the pro-regime
march was incident-free, heavy gunfire on the other hand was heard near Bustan Al-Samkeh
and BeirQdar Mosque. Protesters were also shot at in Sidawi with news of a
victim in Tabiyat. Explosions were heard all day in owieneh, MarTaqla, Ain
Tamra, Iskan Street, and twice in Qnainas.
And celebrating the one year revolution anniversary people
demonstrated in Al-Raml, Haffeh, Qnainas, Mashrou’ Al-Qalaa, and in Mashrou’
Al-Slaybeh.
The “Spray Man”
campaign also celebrated the anniversary spraying on walls of Afaf, Karama, and
Omar Bin Khatab schools in remembrance of the Daraa kids who started it all. Walls
of governmental offices in Slaybeh and Baghdad Street were also sprayed. In a
new move activists sprayed freedom words on security patrol cars while busy.
All G3 connections
were off today fearing activists might be preparing something for the
anniversary.
Revolution flag was
raised on Rahman Mosque today, and fliers were distributed in Al-Raml, Sidawi,
and Slaybeh encouraging people to continue demonstrating. In Qalaa activists
wrote anti-regime slogans in red on wall of Mughrabi Square.
Many snipers topped
buildings overlooking the municipality square where the pro-regime march was assembled;
snipers were also seen in Al-Raml area.
Security raided and
arrested many in Owieneh like a 19 year-old who got arrested by members dressed
as civilians. Arrests were random near Khalid Bin Al-Walid Mosque in Skantoori,
and also Bustan Al-Samkeh was raided with more than 50 members. Fadi Hamada was
arrested in Al-Sijn.
