Daily report from Latakia on Saturday 22/10/2011
After a Friday with the name of [Martyrs of the Arab League] in which
the regime didn't fail to live up to this name, demonstrations
continued in Latakia. In Bustan Al-Sidawi a big demonstration march down
the streets calling for Homs and freedom, and was soon met by security.
In Bor-Saed street in Mashrou' Al-Slaybeh security and thugs smashed
and burnt a Honda car for the sole purpose of terrorizing people. While
five people were arrested in Al-Hamad mosque in Baghdad street
yesterday, only for happening to be in the mosque.
A huge explosion was heard in Qnainas, and another explosion just as
big was heard after morning prayers in Al-Raml Al-Janoobi. Also in
Al-Raml, heavy security presence was a feature in Tala'eh camp after
repainting walls that had anti-regime slogans written on them.
Security and their thugs formed barriers on roads leading to nearby
villages like Salma, Kassab, and Slonfeh, as they were asking people for
their IDs and searching their cars. It was rather clear that they had
no lists to compare IDs to, as it normally happens here, which leads us
to believe that this was for the sole purpose of terrorizing people.
We've also known of 10 warships coming from Tartous to Latakia's port, and they were spotted near Al-Raml beach.
In Jableh:
A big security presence was noticed in most of the city, with 5
warships on its shores. Along with raids and arrests in Al-Izi and
Al-Taghra neighborhoods, as 56 year-old Muhammad Zraiq and Ahmad Al-Aji
were reported to have been arrested.
A big explosion was heard in the industrial area, and we were unable
to identify the exact place nor the reason due to the intense security
presence as mentioned earlier.
