Daily
report from Latakia on Thursday 05 July 2012
The media office in Salma was targeted last night with
rockets; activist Omar Jeblawi was slightly injured with shrapnel but he’s
reported to be fine as is everyone else.
Also last night heavy gunfire was heard near Kinsebba area,
and regime army fired rockets from warplanes at Kurds Mountains near Bdama and
al-Najish using mortar.
Today shelling from helicopters continued around Salma, and
army flight was seen in Qasatel area firing heavily on anything that moves in
the forests and villages. Heavy gunfire was heard in Shellef village while
warplanes were roaming the skies firing missiles.
That was followed with renewal of arbitrary shelling on
Salma, Dourine, and Marouniat as many houses in the latter were set on fire due
to the shelling with no injuries recorded. At night heavy shelling targeted Ain
al-Ghazal village leaving three civilians severely injured when hit with
shrapnel. Violent shelling with tanks and rocket launchers caused damages to
few houses in Dweirkeh without injuries in that village.
We learned that some of those cooperating with the regime are
throwing special CDs similar to ones used in Iraq to pin-point targets for
shelling.
20 fire trucks were seen today standing still beside Balloran
Dam while fires were eating up forests in Kurds Mountains. It looks as if the fire
trucks were getting ready when fires near villages that the regime considers
loyal.
Names of victims documented by us yesterday; Ghassan Hajo [22
yrs. from Terdine], Kheder Abboud [20 yrs. FSA], Muhammad Shammat [25 yrs. from
Salma], Alaa Jouma [24 yrs.], Hani Dahro [27 yrs.], Ahmad al-Sheikh [22 yrs.].
A big explosion shook American Street last night, and later
we knew that Paparazzi Restaurant owned by Ali Najib (a man of the regime) was
targeted, and there were injuries recorded. It was followed by heavy security
presence in the area.
Inspection was tight today on a barrier in al-Raml near 6th
Tishreen Street, and three gunshots were heard on Hirsh Road. Yesterday
there had been a similar inspection in al-Raml supervised by two first Lieutenants.
Security members and Shabbiha raided a house in al-Shate’ al-Azraq Today.
Gunfire and explosions were heard at night in al-Raml and
Skantoori, and gunfire was also heard in Slaybeh. Despite that a demo took
place in Slaybeh, and another was shot at by security to disperse the crowds in
al-Raml.
Below are videos of the day.
