report from Latakia on Tuesday 03 July 2012
Shelling on Kurds Mountains was renewed more than once today, especially on Salma and surrounding villages, in addition to many firs breaking in Kom village due to shelling. A huge fire also broke in Barzeh village as black smoke covered villages of Ikko and Kebbani while helicopters were firing using machine-guns.
More than 10 rockets per minute were reported to have fallen
on various parts of Kurds Mountains; the rockets were thermal ones and caused fires
on vast areas. The governors of Latakia and Idleb issued a statement
prohibiting locals from putting off the fire on their own, and that anyone who
would attempt so will be a target for the army, while no fire trucks were sent
to the damaged areas. Instead, helicopters kept flying over with machine-guns heard
in the area to keep people away. We must mention that fire reached places near
civilian houses and was concentrated near Kom, Wadi Shikhan, Salma, and Dourine
areas.
Later on shelling continued on Salma and nearby villages with
a rate of one missile per 5 minutes. Zuzu Hotel in Salma was shelled and
severely damaged, and fire kept going in Hzeireen Valley between Salma and
Dourine.
Assad forces were seen in al-Barouda villages firing mortar
and bombs randomly at Salma.
In Haffeh the body of Muhammad Fares Fahed from Msheirfeh was
found after weeks of being missing.
A new barrier of Assad gang members and 3 BMB tanks was put
in place at al-Sarmanieh exit at the beginning of Kurds Mountains.
Four army trucks carrying weapons arrived today at the port,
and their colors were changed from green to yellow.
Three security cars were seen roaming al-Cornish al-Janoobi,
and 7 others raided a house in Bustan al-Sidawi.
Heavy security was detected in Bustan al-Sidawi, and in
Mashrou’ al-Slaybeh where gunfire was heard.
At night a demo took place in Slabeh near Abu-Swais where
protesters burned tires blocking the street, and later another demo was
organized near Omar bin al-Khattab Mosque in al-Sijn and Antakia Street.
A big explosion shook al-Ashrafiyeh area last night.
